Whether you’ve just unboxed your very first 3D printer or have been printing miniatures, tabletop heroes, and cosplay props for years, you share the same goal: to print as much as you want, with the best possible quality, as quickly as possible. And we’re here to help you do just that.
After years of dedicated development and months of beta testing with our amazing community, Lychee Slicer 8.0 is officially here! But this isn’t just another update. Let’s take a look at what makes this release so special.
Lychee Slicer has always been a favorite among creators, from absolute beginners to seasoned pros. But as your prints grew bigger and more complex, a simple update was no longer enough. To deliver the smooth, reliable experience you deserve, we knew we had to go further.
What do we mean by "rebuilt"?
Previous versions, including Lychee Slicer 7, ran on Electron. As the software evolved, this architecture began to introduce technical limitations. To overcome them, our team spent years building an entirely new foundation from scratch. Lychee Slicer 8 now runs on a custom architecture developed entirely in-house, combining Chromium Embedded 150 for the interface with our own Vulkan engine for window rendering and compositing. It's still the intuitive Lychee Slicer you know and love, but now powered by a high-performance engine designed to make your 3D printing workflow faster, smoother, and more responsive.
When we say we've completely rebuilt Lychee Slicer 8, we mean it. We didn't just tweak a few settings. We overhauled the entire engine to make your 3D printing workflow faster, smoother, and more efficient. But don't just take our word for it. We put Lychee Slicer 7 and Lychee Slicer 8 to the test using identical, highly complex 3D scenes to measure the differences in speed and resource usage. Here's what years of engineering mean for your everyday 3D printing experience:
Preparing your files now uses a fraction of your computer's resources. That means less strain on your system, so you can keep working comfortably without your computer slowing down.
Adding supports manually is now faster and more responsive. Supports appear almost instantly as you click, so you can place them precisely without frustrating mouse lag.
Zoom, rotate, and edit complex or hollowed models with ease. Even when working on detailed scenes, you can enjoy a smoother, more responsive experience without constantly waiting for your screen to catch up.
Generate automatic supports in a fraction of the time. What used to take a long wait can now be done in just a few seconds, helping you move from model preparation to printing faster.
Building support bridges and grid structures is now significantly faster, making it easier to prepare large, complex scenes without interrupting your workflow.
If you print large models split into multiple pieces, like helmets, action figures, or terrain, you know how frustrating it can be when the parts don't line up properly during assembly.
With our new Assembly Keys tool, you can generate custom matching pegs and sockets directly in the slicer. Simply print your pieces, fit them together like building blocks, and enjoy easier, more precise assembly every time.
Finding the right orientation for your model is one of the first steps in preparing a successful print, but choosing the best angle can be tricky. With our upgraded Auto-Orientation tool, you can find the optimal printing angle in just one click. The new algorithm analyzes your 3D model and automatically rotates it to help prevent print failures and minimize support marks. And the best part? This beginner-friendly, time-saving tool is available to all users for free!
And that’s just the beginning! Lychee Slicer 8 has even more improvements waiting for you, including dozens of community-requested bug fixes, a more polished interface, and stability enhancements to make your everyday printing experience even smoother. Curious to see everything that’s new?
